As well as being the Southbank Centre’s 75th anniversary, 2026 marks around 50 years since London skateboarders first adopted the concrete space under the Queen Elizabeth Hall as their own. See an exhibition telling the story of London’s original skate space at Skate 50 (30 April to 21 June).

Venture into a world of mystery as Anish Kapoor fills the Hayward Gallery (16 June to 18 October) with immersive works, many of which press against the gallery walls and floors, or descend from the ceiling to create an uncanny sensation of awe and wonder. Flawless steel mirror sculptures that disorient, mysterious objects coated in the blackest substance in the world and seemingly depthless voids draw you in with a thrilling sense of vertigo.
